The Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society Chapter are strongly committed to the celebration and promotion of chemistry education on campus and in the community! Events including lectures, fieldtrips and the celebration of National Chemistry Week each October are just a few things the chapter offers!
The Student Affiliates are also very active within the community. In the past year they have held a chemistry demonstration for a group of local middle school students to promote interest in the science field. They have also teamed up with the Girl Scouts of America to take part in a science education program at the Chestertown Middle School. Additional community activities have included food and toiletry drives, as well as fundraising for scholarships for Washington College students.
The 2009-2010 school year is shaping up to be an exciting one for ACS members! They are looking forward to sending several members to the annual National American Chemical Society conference, which will be taking place in San Francisco this March. Other plans for this school year include a fundraiser to collect money for the National Cancer Society in addition to furthering educational community outreach. An appreciation for chemistry is not only one for the sciences, but for life itself!
